Struesels, also called crumb toppings, can be added to pretty much anything sweet and they make things taste that much better. This is a basic recipe that you can modify in a lot of different ways, but a great one to keep in your repertoire.
- 1 cup All Purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar (white sugar will also work)
- 1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) Butter, cold, cut into pieces
- Teeny tiny dash of salt
Method #1: Combine all of your ingredients into a bowl, mixing together, and work things together using a pastry blender, or two knives, or by using your fingers. The mixture should resemble fine crumbs. Spread mixture evenly over whatever you are going to bake, and bake as usual.
Method #2: My preferred method. Dump everything into a food processor and pulse until you have something that resembles fine crumbs. You’re done! Spread mixture evenly over what you’re planning on baking, and bake as usual/directed.
